Harmonising Faith and Fellowship

Church Choir Association of the FELSISA

The Church Choir Association of the FELSISA represents a vital arm of our synod’s music ministry, encompassing all church choirs within the Free Evangelical Lutheran Synod in South Africa. This association is dedicated to enhancing the spiritual life of our congregations through the power of choral music, which is integral to our worship and communal gatherings.

Purpose and Mission

The primary aim of the Church Choir Association is to promote the richness of church music as a means to glorify God and to spread His Word. Choirs across our synod participate in this mission, using their voices to create a resonant atmosphere that enhances the worship experience and invigorates the congregation’s participation in services.

Annual Choral Festival

One of the highlights of the association’s calendar is the annual choral festival, an event that gathers choirs from across the synod to perform, learn, and worship together. This festival serves as a platform for choirs to showcase new compositions and classic hymns, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose among our musicians and congregants alike. It is a time of joyful celebration and solemn worship, where the talents of our choirs are dedicated to lauding the marvellous works of God, as inspired by Psalm 98:1, “Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvellous things.”

Educational and Spiritual Growth

In addition to performance opportunities, the association is committed to the ongoing education of choir members and directors. Workshops, seminars, and retreats are organised regularly, focusing on vocal technique, music theory, liturgical function, and the role of music in spiritual enrichment. These educational initiatives help to ensure that the choirs of FELSISA continue to grow not only in musical skill but also in their understanding of the profound impact of their ministry.
