A Collaborative Training Initiative
Empowering Church Leaders in Malawi
Elders who are already serving as lay preachers in their church. The MLC answered the call and we have since done 3 two week courses with them in Mzuzu. Following pastors of the MLC have gone over to Malawi to teach: Mission-director R. Zieger, C. Weber, T. Beneke, P. Weber
The course aims at giving the participants a good introduction and foundation into Lutheran Theology. This course is similar to a pre-seminary training provided to lay-leaders. The CLC-MS in consultation with the MLC and the ILC partners will later have to decide what this training will qualify the students for. The MLC does not want to work against our existing seminaries. However it is not always possible for everyone to physically attend a seminary course. (Young and capable students could possibly continue at seminary. Young and less academically capable students could qualify as evangelists / deaconesses. Old and proven students could in exceptional circumstances be ordained for pastoral service in their congregations.)
Anybody seen fit by the CLC-MS can join the training at any given time. No one course will be a prerequisite of another course. This means candidates can slot in at any given time. After every course a test is written. Having past the test the successful participant will obtain a certificate. Having passed all (or most) courses the candidate will graduate from the program.
Over and above the two week courses that are done in Malawi, the teachers set up a monthly study material in a form of a test. In this test each teacher prepares two or three questions to help with the revision of his subject. These questions are sent via Whatsapp to Pastor Wowa, who distributes them amongst the student. Each teacher is responsible for his subject.
Peter Weber from Ohlangeni Mission is the main communicator with Pastor Wowa from Mzuzu. He is in charge of relaying the monthly study materials to Pastor Wowa.
