Fostering Community Support Through Compassionate Service
A Beacon of Hope and Care in Newcastle
St. Martin’s Village is an inspiring community project registered as a Non-Profit Company, operating under the guidance and in partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Newcastle. This initiative is devoted to nurturing a vibrant community that not only cares for those in need but also provides ample opportunities for service to those able to help.
Mission and Services
The primary aim of St. Martin’s Village is to offer comprehensive support and care to the most vulnerable members of the community, particularly abandoned and at-risk infants. A dedicated member of the congregation provides temporary safe care and foster care for up to six babies at a time. This care continues until the children can either return to their biological families or are placed into adoptive or long-term foster families.
Facility and Staff
St. Martin’s Village operates out of a rented farmhouse adjacent to the church, creating a homely and secure environment for the children. The project employs three carers and a housekeeper, ensuring that the children receive not only love and attention but also professional care. The village extends its support beyond just housing, offering social work services, food, clothing, and other essentials to the children and their foster families.
Community Integration and Education
In addition to its foster care services, St. Martin’s Village has recently opened a kindergarten on the church premises. This facility serves as a nurturing place for children to play, learn, and grow within a Christian environment. The kindergarten integrates biblical teachings, storytelling, and prayer into its curriculum, which is offered free of charge to children from St. Martin’s Village. Weekly devotions are conducted by the pastor from the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Newcastle, further integrating these children into the broader church community.
