Children’s Camp 2023

Pastor Thomas Beneke, Newcastle

Although “Go into all the world…” was the theme for this year’s Children’s Camp, the first special moment for the weekend was the arrival of children from every corner of the FELSISA. What a happy reunion, and for some, what an exciting first meeting! From 14 – 17 December, 88 children between the ages 9 and 12, as well as numerous helpers and smaller children attended a joy-filled camp at the “Wag ‘n Bietjie” venue near Pretoria.

Bible studies to the theme of “Mission as stewards of God’s name,” led by Pastor Thomas Beneke, provided children and helpers with many interesting discussion points to better understand Christ’s important command to make disciples of all nations. How can we as families incorporate this command into our daily lives? How do we become good stewards of his name?

These thoughts were also brought across musically in the choir sessions led by Victor Böhmer, and so the words: “We want to carry God’s light into the world” filled the St Paul’s church at the Sunday divine service. The children’s choir, the recorder group and the violin group brought much joy to the local congregants.

Besides bible study groups and choir, there was also ample time for fun at “Wag ‘n Bietjie”. Meal times were generously provided for by the St Paul’s congregation, and there was always a happy buzz of chatter coming from children enjoying their meals together. They had a great time exploring the extensive grounds, playing and also viewing some interesting animals at the little zoo on site. The swimming pool was a hit, and in spite of the predicted rainy days, there was plenty of sunshine in which to enjoy swimming and playing in the pool and on the water slide. They also enjoyed sports and crafting activities. Helpers and children tackled the obstacle course together on Saturday morning, and this was also a great deal of fun for everyone. The traditional Survivor competition marked the farewell of the grade sixes.

This short video gives an impression of the blessed and happy days spent at “Wag ‘n Bietjie”:

We are grateful to the organisers and helpers, as well as to the St Paul’s congregation for their input!
