53rd Choir Festival of the FELSISA

Dieter and Ronelie Prigge, Lüneburg

The Choir Festival for 2025 took place on the 5th of October in Lüneburg.

The accompanying verse from 1 Peter 1:3 laid the foundation for the festive service: ‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.’

Under the direction of Mr. Bernhard Böhmer, almost 150 singers took part in the Choir Festival. It seems that participation in the Choir Festival has increased over the last two to three years, which is very encouraging. The former synodical choir director Manfred Johannes always said the following: ‘Singing in the choir is the one thing which grandparents can do together with their grandchildren.’

The service began, as usual, with a few morning and praise songs and reached its musical climax with Bach’s cantata, O Jesu Christ, meins Lebenslicht (O Jesus Christ, light of my life –BWV 118).

The second part of the festival emphasised the theme of the choir festival with songs that fill us with hope for Jesus our Lord in eternity — ‘Herr, ich warte auf dein Heil, o komm und hole mich’ (Lord, I wait for your salvation, O come and fetch me).

A sincere thanks to the Lüneburg congregation, led by local pastor Klaus Damaske, for hosting and organising this festival.
